How to Make Homemade Garbage Disposal Tablets

Unsure about that putrid aroma wafting from your garbage disposal? Instead of pouring toxic chemicals down the drain, banish nasty kitchen smells using natural ingredients that you most likely already have in your kitchen.

Steps

  1. Cut citrus fruit into cube sized pieces. You need the pieces to fit easily into your ice cube tray so cut accordingly. Leave seeds and skin on lemons and limes--you’ll need the entire fruit for this project!

  2. Place a mixture of lemons and limes into the ice cube tray. Fill all the way and don’t skimp on the citrus!

  3. Pour distilled white vinegar into each citrus filled cube tray. Fill to the top, as though you were filling the tray to make ice.

  4. Freeze tray. Leave in your freezer for at least 24 hours so the cubes are rock solid.

  5. Remove frozen cubes from tray for storage. Grasp by a piece of citrus fruit sticking out from the top and pull. The cube should come out.

  6. Place cubes in a freezer bag and mark accordingly. You don’t want someone putting one of these cubes in their drink by mistake!

  7. When you are ready to use, turn on the hot water and allow it to run into the garbage disposal. Add ½ cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by one pre-made cube. Push cube into disposal while disposal is NOT on. The mixture will bubble and fizz, releasing the citrus smell immediately.
